This project was developed for Outward Bound Brazil, a non-profit organisation dedicated to experiential education through outdoor expeditions in remote natural environments in Brazil. The assignment involved documenting multiple programmes designed to foster personal development, leadership, and resilience through direct engagement with nature.
The primary challenge was working within highly variable and often unpredictable conditions. Expeditions took place in isolated locations with limited access, changing weather conditions, and strict logistical constraints. At the same time, the visual material needed to serve clear communication goals: attracting new participants, supporting fundraising efforts, and conveying the organisation’s mission in an authentic and accessible way.
The approach prioritised close observation and immersion in the expeditions themselves. Photography and video were produced while accompanying participants and instructors in real conditions, without staging or interference. Visual decisions focused on conveying scale, effort, and human interaction with the environment, balancing wide landscapes with intimate moments of collaboration, fatigue, and reflection.
The resulting body of work was used across promotional channels and crowdfunding campaigns, helping translate the organisation’s values into a visual narrative grounded in real experience. Rather than idealising the outdoor setting, the project sought to communicate the intensity, commitment, and human dimension that define the programmes.
